What is Sportshall Athletics

Sportshall Athletics is an adapted version of the more traditional track and field athletics with one big difference, it is run in a sports hall!

Sportshall Athletics was created in the United Kingdom by George Bunner in 1976 to introduce children to the joy of athletics during the cold, damp, winter months when many children would otherwise disappear from the world of athletics until the spring. Soon George created the reversaboard which enables children to strike and turn in the same movement and run in the opposite direction. From here many other traditional athletics events have been adapted to suit the indoor nature.

Sportshall Athletics is designed for children between the ages of 8 and 15. The main aim of Sportshall Athletics is to get children enjoying an early introduction to athletics. Whether it be Primary School children or Secondary School children participating in the organised competitions, the biggest emphasis is upon having fun. Despite a competitive nature of many competitions you can near enough guarantee that 99%, if not 100%, of participants, come away having enjoyed themselves and eager to get involved a little more.

Sportshall Athletics does not exclude anyone and actively encourages children of all backgrounds, all abilities and of all starting levels.

There is always something for people to get involved with and there is always an event that is just right for that athlete.
